Unusual Paintings of Obama Naked with Unicorns →
Not safe for work, and almost certainly not safe for brain either.
These are, yes, paintings of a naked Obama cavorting with a unicorn. And House (as in the cranky fictional TV doctor) is in there at one point. And a naked Rush Limbaugh. And Ugly Betty.
I totally don’t get it either.
Also, as the friend who sent it to me said, the title of the post is sort of hilarious, implying as it...
Cory Arcangel: Drei Klavierstücke op. 11 (2009) →
The author’s description of this project:
Recently I took a few months of my free time and decided to recreate Arnold Schoenberg’s 1909 op. 11 Drei Klavierstücke (aka Three Piano Pieces) by editing together videos of cats playing pianos downloaded from Youtube.
This gives “play him off, Keyboard Cat” a whole new meaning.
The Cocktail Renaissance →

This might be the best article I’ve ever read on proper cocktails. I’m inspired to buy some bitters and sugar cubes on the way home and have an Old Fashioned tonight.
Excellent article — honestly, I welcome to new wave of cocktail nerdery with open arms. Well-constructed drinks are a fine thing, and there are some really talented and creative...
Curious and grotesque: Exquisite Bodies exhibition... →
This one comes with a DON’T CLICK warning. The Wellcome Collection in London is running an exhibition of anatomical models and related curiosities — anatomical Venuses, reproductions of human body parts ravaged by disease, all that sort of thing. I’m not kidding; if you’re squeamish, DON’T CLICK. But if you’re into weird history the way I am, and have a strong...

– British Conservative Party leader David Cameron, during a morning radio interview. He has since apologised.
Finally found a clip of the William Shatner recitation of Palin’s resignation speech that hasn’t been yanked by NBC (being that it’s on Hulu rather than Youtube).

…I will post something on this tumblelog that isn’t me forgetting to switch the settings on my phone when I mean to post something to nerdpromnomnom.
But today is not that day, unless you count this post in some meta-sort-of-way, and probably won’t be until I get back from Nerd Prom. Watch my tumblarity plummet. The other tumblelog, however, is doing well.
Another project for...
Woe. Our favorite breakfast place from 2007 no longer serves breakfast. At least the hotel has a reasonably decent restaurant and a place to eat outside — got to take advantage of the San Diego weather while we can. Plus, outdoor dining is best for people-watching.
Everyone sports their fannish allegiances on clothes, bags, etc. Dr Horrible, Indiana Jones, Star Wars (or Robot Chicken Star Wars), Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Me? I have a Freakangels bag.
If you go to the Twilight panel tomorrow, my daughter will be the one in the...

Off we go
On the plane for San Diego. Judging from the t-shirts (superheroes, Legend of Zelda) and other accoutrements, fully half the people on board must be on their way to Comic-Con.
My other tumblelogs
nerdpromnomnom: As noted previously, I’ll be using this to blog San Diego Comic Con. And I’ll have it around in the future for other conventions and fannish gatherings, like Gallifrey One in February.

Buzz Aldrin Punches Moon Landing Conspiracy... →
The key part of the video in this HuffPo piece occurs around 2:40, where Buzz Aldrin makes his feelings known to a lunar-landing-denier (or “nutbag”, as Mythbusters’ Adam Savage puts it).
Go Buzz!

I’ll be posting updates, photos, and other goodies from San Diego at this tumblr (so as not to clog up Twitter, LJ, etc.).
Palin’s Resignation: The Edited Version →
Vanity Fair sics a literary editor, a researcher, and a copy editor on Sarah Palin’s resignation speech. The result is a rainbow of colors.
At the Alamo Drafthouse (South Lamar) on Sunday, patrons enter the theatre for one of the evening showings of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
(For the opening weekend of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, they built a wardrobe with a “forest” in the hallway behind it. They don’t do things by halves, these guys.)

Just when you thought it was safe … giant squid... →
Giant squid are gathering off the San Diego coast. Really. The fact that this is happening the week before San Diego Comic-Con may be hilarious only to me.
And jelly is, quite possibly, the most cheering substance on the planet. Apart...

What is awesome about the British miniseries Torchwood: Children of Earth, which aired last week on BBC2: Creepy children chanting, tightly written, genuinely thought-provoking and chilling in places. What is not awesome about Torchwood: Children of Earth: How high is your tolerance for child exploitation and murder? The last two episodes are pretty hard to watch. What I did not...

chucks86: How would people outside get a hold of these Bowies?
Wibbles: Why would you want to? They'd be worthless.
chucks86: It'd be currency with Bowie's picture on it. Why wouldn't I want to?
Wibbles: Good point.

Eridania Rodriguez, 46, punched in for work at No 2 Rector Street at 5pm local time. She put on her blue uniform, chatted with other after-hours workers and was last seen on security cameras at around 7pm. Then, she disappeared.
