Ai Weiwei's Sunflower Seeds to go on sale at... →
Anyone who missed the chance to romp among the handpainted ceramic seeds created by the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei at Tate Modern will soon get another opportunity – but the close encounter will cost up to £120,000. For the first time a sackful of the seeds is to be sold officially at a Sotheby’s auction of contemporary art next month. We saw this installation at the Tate Modern last...

rocketsandrayguns: tomewing: rocketsandrayguns: tomewing: Your correspondent’s economy was on the verge of a Chinese-style episode of overheating when another panellist, with a marginally lower boiling point, went over the top. This discussion is taking place “on the moon”, he colourfully observed. The 10m additional unemployed workers in developed countries would be surprised to hear...

It takes place at a liberal arts college on the East Coast and I run a suicide prevention centre where I help suicidal and depressed students overcome their tendencies through staging musicals with them, and teaching them how to tap dance and sing in musicals. steven_moffat: The National Television Awards. Vote Doctor Who AND Sherlock. You know it makes senses. http://bit.ly/9rS7tK
caitlinmoran: @steven_moffat If they both win, will the Doctor and Sherlock have to accept the award whilst touching each other, erotically?
caitlinmoran: @steven_moffat It's just a thought that is concerning me.
caitlinmoran: @steven_moffat Like some kind of "award docking"?
steven_moffat: @caitlinmoran Anything for your votes - I'll have a word with the lads.
caitlinmoran: @steven_moffat *starts smashing "re-dial" like an ADHD woodpecker*

Because why limit your ogling to the current New Hotness movie and music stars? My favorite feature: the pie charts.

Scots seek to end US haggis ban →
“Scottish Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead invited a delegation of American politicians to Scotland in a bid to persuade them to reverse a 40-year ban on the haggis.” Some would argue that the jokes almost write themselves. Truth is, I’d actually like to try a proper haggis someday. (This will come as no surprise to most of you reading this.) But I’m not...

– Ewan McGregor on his experience in Velvet Goldmine (x) Best story ever. I like that he gleefully tells stories about this and dropping his pants. (via turnabout) The thing that takes this from pretty awesome to full on awesome is the fact that he makes sure to identify Christian Bale as Batman. ...

This is how they’re dealing with the busted ice machine in the break room on my floor. I guess turning the thing off and disconnecting it from the water supply is just too much?

From "The Last Days of Disco", written/directed by...
Josh: There is something depressing about it, and it's not really about dogs. Except for some superficial bow-wow stuff at the start, the dogs all represent human types, which is where it gets into real trouble. Lady, the ostensible protagonist, is a fluffy blond Cocker Spaniel with absolutely nothing on her brain. She's great-looking, but - let's be honest - incredibly insipid. Tramp, the love interest, is a smarmy braggart of the most obnoxious kind - an oily jailbird out for a piece of tail, or... whatever he can get.
Charlotte: Oh, come on.
Josh: No, he's a self-confessed chicken thief, and all-around sleazeball. What's the function of a film of this kind? Essentially as a primer on love and marriage directed at very young people, imprinting on their little psyches the idea that smooth-talking delinquents recently escaped from the local pound are a good match for nice girls from sheltered homes. When in ten years the icky human version of Tramp shows up around the house, their hormones will be racing and no one will understand why. Films like this program women to adore jerks.

Morrison Versus Moore: My Opinion.
jessnevins: As is usually the case, Murray Kempton said it best: A while back I fell into one of those tiresome discussions where the other party says you take Julius Erving and I’ll take Larry Bird and you take Sarah Vaughan and I’ll take Ella Fitzgerald. There was no disposing of such nonsense except to observe that the years have taught me to be grateful for having them all. This is now...
