Muji the Cat vs Leaves in the Wind.
(Because our door vestibule faces north, this happens every single time a blue norther sweeps in.)

In which the Guardian’s Tim Hayward has discovered deep-fried turkey (about 14 years after Americans—or at least the ones I know—started going nuts over it, but never mind).
Very worth watching, actually, not least for the demonstration (not by Hayward) of what kind of conflagration can ensue when turkey frying is done poorly.

There’s a beautiful Google doodle inspired by Lem’s The Cyberiad and Daniel Mroz’s illustrations on Google.co.uk right now. Check it out.

Download Part I. Download Part II.
It’s a real damn shame there wasn’t a museum capable of keeping this entire collection together. This is a collection that included Jean Seberg’s armor from Joan of Arc and a camera used by George Lucas for principal photography on Star Wars.

Periodic Novel, Coming Soon - NYTimes.com →
yendi:
I’m very excited about this one. I love Danielewski.
I couldn’t get through his last novel, alas, but I still occasionally have nightmares that reference House of Leaves. Looking forward to this.

In Feline Agility Events, the Biggest Obstacle Can... →
Feline agility competitions. Seriously. I think this may be one of the funniest things I’ve read about all week.
It is a sport in which the contestants sometimes lie down in the middle of the field, unmotivated and bemused.

I'm not a fan of traditional Thanksgiving food.
heatherpattern:
Fried turkey is pretty good, but all the casseroles gross me out. If I ever host Thanksgiving, we’re going to make sushi or something completely different.
My dad usually makes a big pot of beans, so I like that.
unrelated: Lucy was snoring in her sleep, and wagging her tail in her dreams. It tickled. It was cute.
The last few years in our house, Thanksgiving has meant:

Dulce et decorum est — Wilfred Owen
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of tired, outstripped Five-Nines that dropped behind.

V for Vendetta: Framing the debate →
The choice of V for Vendetta in this month’s book group has already fired up a debate about how to read comics – and about their relative value as an art form.
I cannot help but be bemused by the fact that these discussions are still going on. But I live in a small, self-selected, highly curated world, in which there’s hardly anyone who doesn’t take the reading of comics and...

Thanks, children of Tumblr, for reblogging that frame from V For Vendetta and stripping out the author/artist credits. Really, that’s just marvelous and ever so respectful.
Seriously, I don’t care if my name’s attached to it or not in the reblog chain; I didn’t write or draw the goddamn thing, after all. But the guys who did deserve the credit.

I am so behind on new music. I haven’t gotten to the Bjork or the new Thomas Dolby.
When you do get the new Thomas Dolby, enjoy having “Toad Lickers” stuck in your head for two days.
