“Don’t worry because I’m going to fight them off.”

During the Nerd HQ “Conversations for a Cause” with Matt, Karen, and Arthur

I love this, so very very much.

Some people would say something sly and patronizing to this girl, and make all the grown-ups laugh. “Ohhh the weeping angels are sooo scary bla bla blah.” But Matt asks this young lady if she’s scared, and she’s honest, and he sees the seriousness in her - because she believes this stuff, it’s part of her universe! And he goes into that universe with her, and tells her the truth from her perspective. He doesn’t say “It’s all pretend, sweetie, there’s nothing to be scared of,” or “Those silly weeping angels can’t hurt you,” or “The Doctor’s got it covered,” or dismiss her in any way. He steps into her world, and promises her that she’ll be safe in a language that she understands.

In my opinion this is the dictionary definition of respecting someone else’s beliefs. You win, Matt. You win so damn hard.

i think this is my favourite post on tumblr

Sylvester McCoy’s the same way with kids, for what it’s worth. Possibly that kind of rapport with children ought to be a requirement for the job.

(That little girl’s somber, wide-eyed nod in the third panel is a heart-melter, though, isn’t it?)

This is the greatest thing in all of classic Doctor Who

It’s a bit hypnotic, isn’t it?

I just plopped.  I don’t really know what that made-up word means, but I’m pretty sure it applies here.

NOW KISS.

Disturbance in the Force, a million fanthings cried out at once, etc. etc.

RIP Ray Cusick designer of the dalek

A great piece of mid-century British design: “radiator parts, boiler parts, and kitchen utensils—but they want to kill you”, as Nick Briggs said at Gallifrey One last week. Thanks, Mr Cusick.

Father - Daughter

Brigadier (Sir) Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart & Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.

As Kate and Eleven talked about her Father, she couldn’t help but remember all those stories her Dad had told her about the his time with Doctors when she was growing up.

Like father like daughter! Such brilliant casting and wonderfully sympathetic writing. :)

More Kate in future seasons of Doctor Who, please.

From the chalkboard wall at my place of work. We’re such a bunch of nerdy delinquents.

Tom Baker - Out-takes

The last panel is one of my favorite Tom Baker vocal snippets.

Tom Baker cursing is never not funny, really.

“And fans of the famous Doctor Who theme tune needn’t worry… This new arrangement remains true to the original, written by Ron Grainer back in 1963, but on Christmas Day you’ll hear it as it’s never sounded before. This latest version is more thrilling and powerful but retains that slightly scary quality that remains stirring no matter how many times you catch it.”

“Revamped Theme Tune and Opening Title Sequence”, on the BBC web site.

Call me a terrible old crank, but frankly given the evolution of the theme over the last few years, this does not inspire confidence.

CE-LE-BRATE!
This is the illustration Karin created for our custom holiday card this year.

Yep, this is a thing I did. Used Autodesk Sketchbook Pro on the iPad. Unfortunately I didn’t save all my process drawings.
I started with our Dalek Sec action figure as a model, and sketched it out with blue lines. Added another layer and drew in the outlines in black (plus the bumps), then added another layer for coloring. Bruce suggested that it would look better with a slight bluish tint rather than being flat grey, so I created another coloring layer, filled it in with a nice steel-blue tone, and then turned down the opacity on the layer until it looked right.
Bruce imported it into Photoshop, added the text, and then we sent the PDF off to moo.com, which we will definitely use again (despite the annoying character count and formatting restrictions on the inside text).
Happy holidays!
