OH MY SWEET ELF KING

I can’t be the only old goth who looks at Thranduil in that pose with that stick … sword … thing and expects him to start dancing around the way Andrew Eldritch does in the video for “This Corrosion”:
The Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion by kalmar
On closer inspection I see that it’s a sword, but still cannot un-imagine Thranduil Eldritch.

“Heck, how about a Game of Thrones style HBO mini series based on the Silmarillion. It’s got violence, maiming, miscegenation and incest—perfect material.” The Beat, “Jackson toying with a third Hobbit movie — just make The Akallabeth already, okay?”

Dwarves of The Hobbit: Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Thorin.

The publicity shots of Richard Armitage as Thorin are giving me the same feelings of disconcertion and cognitive dissonance that I got from seeing James McAvoy as Mr Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardobe. (Which is not to say that I don’t approve. I do. It’s just that I didn’t quite expect the characters in my childhood books would look like that.)
Related: the latest Hobbit video blog is possibly the most delightful and hilarious one yet. It also features the reappearance of several old friends from Lord of the Rings that had me bouncing with glee.
